Oscar is a 3-year-old Pekingese mix whose guardian recently passed away. Oscar’s first foster situation did not work out because he would growl at his foster mom's roommate especially while he was eating on the sofa. He has been with his second foster family for 5 months.
Now that he is comfortable in his foster home, Oscar displays affection and playfulness. He enjoys tossing around his toys as much as he likes relaxing in his bed or on your lap. When his two foster parents come home from work or get up in the morning, he greets them by rolling on his back for a belly rub. He enjoys lots of TLC. His growling diminished after a month as he became more trusting of his new environment and people.
Oscar needs time to adapt to a new environment as he can be fearful and skittish at first. If faced with something that does not agree with him, he will give a warning growl and may snap especially if a stranger tries to pet him from overhead, pick him up from behind or get too close to his food or a resource he likes. He may also snap and bite without much warning if he perceives a threat to his body or food/resource.
Because of his resource guarding and fear of new people, Oscar is suitable for a laid back adults-only home. His new guardians should give him plenty of time and a relaxed atmosphere to build up his trust to get comfortable with his new environment. Patience is a must. Oscar's ideal adopter would be someone familiar with pets and willing to continue training him.
Oscar enjoys walks and is quite used to his harness and leash now. He and his foster dog brother co-exist peacefully but are fed in separate areas to abate any possible food guarding issues. Oscar is always fed second. When meeting new people, he keeps his distance until he feels comfortable enough to approach and sniff their feet. Since he does not tolerate body handling except by those he is familiar with, his foster parents warn all visitors about his behavior and not to pet him. He does not like large crowds of people or traffic. If faced with such a situation, he will back up and 'hunker down' close to the ground. In such situations, he feels safer being held by his foster parents.
Oscar now knows “sit”, “stay” and “come”. He goes to his crate at night to sleep and travels well in the car. He is working on his housetraining and now will go up to the door to indicate he needs to go to the bathroom. He is food motivated so this has helped with his training. spayed, have had all shots has quite a sturdy...he's very unique looking and perhaps different and member of of American Kennel CluB (AKC) Toy Club Group and totally adorable and - With MKA cert and Microchip - Vaccinated - Dewormed - Homebreed .If you're interested in peke please respond to this ad and tell me a little about yourself and your family/home.
